Tenant Organizing
Recent Activity and Accomplishments
- Eagle Watch Estates/Bruce Blattner Apartment
- Successful bed bug extermination after almost 10 years of improper treatments
- Competent on-site management hired
- Automatic light installed in the Eagle Watch laundry room
- Automatic doors installed for half a dozen apartment entrances and the downstairs garbage room in the Eagle Watch building
- Security door fixed at the Blattner building after a year, and at the Eagle watch building after 2 months
- Faulty refrigerator replaced in tenant’s unit
- Garden District Apartments
- Assisted a tenant with significant improvements in their unit including: a functioning washer and dryer set, repairs to bedroom door that prevented opening from the inside, toilet that didn’t flush properly, and damages to the living room floor
- Assisted same tenant with Section 8 paperwork
Goals for the Year
- Finish report on conditions at the Garden District apartments
- Canvass all “Affordable Housing” complexes in Missoula
- Add another complex into the “Affordable Housing” union
- Evaluate quality of housing service non-profits in Missoula
Environmental Organizing
Recent Activity and Accomplishments
- Stop the Gravel Pit and Asphalt Plant by the Blackfoot River
- County Commissioners cancelled developer’s application and asked them to reapply with an explanation of how they will mitigate potential environmental harm
- Set up a volunteer day at the library and assigned routes for people to put up signs and flyers around town in support of the Blackfoot River Community’s effort
- Shared needed contacts and resources with the Blackfoot River Community to boost their effort
- Advised group on organizing tactics
Goals for the year
- Put a full stop to the gravel pit and asphalt plant proposed by the Blackfoot River in Bonner (Just outside of the City of Missoula)
- Learn about and create ties between all environmental organizing efforts in the State of Montana
- Begin an organizing effort around data center implementation around the State of Montana
