What’s Happening?

Across Montana, massive data centers are being proposed—facilities that consume enormous amounts of electricity and water, strain our grid, and threaten the very landscapes we love. While tech companies market these as “economic development,” the true cost is often hidden: skyrocketing utility bills, depleted aquifers, and industrial sprawl in rural and sensitive areas.

Our campaign is fighting back. We demand that any new data center development in Montana must be truly sustainable—with 100% renewable energy, minimal water use, and genuine community benefit. No more corporate giveaways at the expense of our home.

Why It Matters

  • Land

    Industrial Sprawl

Data centers occupy hundreds of acres, often paving over prime agricultural land and fragmenting wildlife habitat.

  • Water

    Thirsty Tech

A single large data center can use millions of gallons of water daily for cooling—enough to supply a small town.

  • Energy

    Straining Our Grid

Without new renewable capacity, data centers lock us into fossil fuels, raising rates for everyone.

  • Democracy

    No Community Voice

Many projects rush through approvals with little public input, using tax breaks that could go to schools and infrastructure.

  • Our Demands

    • Immediate moratorium on new data center permits until a comprehensive environmental and community impact study is completed.
    • 100% renewable energy requirement – no new fossil fuel infrastructure for data centers.
    • Water use transparency and strict limits to protect our rivers and aquifers.
    • Community benefits agreements that include affordable housing contributions, local hiring, and tax revenue that stays in Montana.
    • Meaningful public process – no more fast‑tracked approvals behind closed doors.
